Hardback with the excellent dust-jacket, just a couple of short, repaired tears to edges to detract. 287 pages, 31 colour plates and 349 b/w illusts. A near fine copy. The "conversation piece" is an intimate group portrait usually of small dimensions which became fashionable in the Low Countries before flourishing in 18th century England. Its declined was hastened by the invention of photography.
