First Folio Edition of the classic horror novel issued in an edition of between 110 and 200 copies, exact number unknown. signed by both Stephen King and the illustrator Edward Kinsella. Signatures appear on a specially printed slip that has been tipped in on the first free endpaper. Book supplied in the original slipcase with a fly in silvertone embossed on the front. A fine copy. Originally published in 1977, King's story of an off-season hotel caretaker loosing his sanity and terrorising his family was his third published novel and first hard cover bestseller. Its success launched him into the firmament of the horror genre. It was not just the book that was unsettling... King's struggles with alcoholism and his own unsettling experience of staying in room 217 at the Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, Colorado, in 1974, had a big influence on the novel. It was adapted into a movie in 1980.
