Cranford

An attractive copy with the evocative Hugh Thomson line drawings and gilt-illustrated boards and spine. Frontispiece with the browned tissue-guard. All edges gilt; previous owner's neat, inked inscription to front free endpaper, dated 1892. 'Cranford' is an episodic novel first issued in instalments in the magazine 'Household Words', then as a book with the title Cranford in 1853. The work slowly became popular and from the start of the 20th century it saw a number of dramatic treatments for the stage, the radio and TV.
