First English Edition. 8vo. pp. xii + 356. Photographic frontispiece plus 61 photographic illustrations on 45 plates. Original blue cloth with gilt lettering to upper board and spine, square gilt engraved panel to upper, cloth slightly faded and bumped at corners, light rubbing neat top edge of spine at join with upper board. Corner removed at page 45/46 with no loss to text. Scattered spots of foxing to endpapers and marginally in text, neat pencil inscription to first endpaper dated 1921. A VG+ copy of this personal account of an expedition undertaken by J. C. Ewald Falls with his cousin, Kaufmann. The initial aim was to journey to Cyrenaïca, but due to many obstacles it was not possible, so the members of the team turned to rediscovering the tomb of St Menas in the Libyan desert.
