Charming and obscure book of poems by a seemingly unknown poet, inscribed "Diana M. Bacon from Elsie Friend, 20th April 1893" to the front endpaper in elegant ink hand. Beautifully bound in an understated grey-blue morocco with wide gilt borders and turn-in, elegant golden floral endpapers, all edges gilt, raised bands with sectioned floral ornaments. Extremities slightly rubbed. Rubricated titlepage. Contains 12 sonnets and other romantic poems, some moving, others frankly nauseating! Something for the collector of sonnets perhaps - one opens, "O Youth, thou sunny spring of Life's long year" - not bad. Anyway, lovely binding and a pretty addition to any collection.
