12mo. pp 60 + [11] blanks at the end. Bound in full red calf, gilt, with twin brass clasps at fore edge, floral ornaments to the spine. All edges gilt and gauffered. Tail of spine and corner tips slightly rubbed The first 24 pages consist of a calendar noting holy days, feasts etc, The comes all manner of useful historical faction, ie. 'sovereigns of Europe', 'terms and returns' (schools), 'Royal Family of Great Britain', 'list of stamps', 'list of the quarter sessions', 'weight of English gold coin', 'remarkable events'; then comes details of 'fixed' and 'moveable' fairs up and down the country. Rider's British Merlin was first published in in 1653, and was printed annually into the nineteenth century. Copies are seldom found in this lovely, bright condition, with both clasps fully functional.
