Demy 8vo (22cm); viii, 396, engraved portrait frontis. and one folding plate; (vi), (414), portrait frontis., one plate of engraved manuscript; lacks the half-title pages for each vol. In a spectacular panelled binding with patterned borders in gilt, inner dentelles, spines divided into compartments with floral devices and filigree gilt bands; tips of corners slightly bumped; marbled pastedowns and page edges. Front board detached from v1. Errata (for v1 and v2) on verso of final printed leaf in v2. and with bibliographical footnotes, and an index at the end of v2.
