Early edition bound in tan half morocco over marbled boards with raised bands to spine, gilt rules and title, extremities and corner points rubbed esp. top edge of spine. Engraved frontispiece, from a drawing by Frank Stone, heavily foxed to recto and verso, also titlepage with blotchy foxing (as usual with his edition). Text aligned in double columns. An early edition of Chuzzlewit, originally published in parts between 1842 and 1844 and considered the last of Dickens's picaresque novels. Never one of the major Dickens novels, contemporary novelist George Gissing felt that it displayed "incomprehensible weakness of story".
