BRATBY, John (1928-92) SKU: 20342 Barcode:
All first edition, comprising the semi-autobiographical account of the light of British painter John Bratby (1928-92). 8vo. All with excellent and unclipped dust-jackets, that of 'Breakdown' rubbed at head and tail of spine. All without inscriptions etc. All with jackets and illustrations by the artist. A near fine set of this collectable work. Bratby was an English painter, teacher and writer, much associated with the 'Kitchen Sink School'. Also aligned to this style were Jack Smith (1928-2011), Edward Middleditch (1923–87) and Derrick Greaves (b 1927), and these artists became the main exponents of the Kitchen Sink school. However, while the Kitchen Sink artists shared a desire to depict the banality of a working-class domestic environment, Bratby's use of colours and his more middle-class surroundings distinguished his style from that of his peers.
