Number 18 of an edition of 150 copies bound by Zaehnsdorf of London and signed by the artist and the prefacist. Folio. 1 small pen sketch on the foretitle, frontispiece self-portrait drawn on plate, then 50 plates mostly in pen or pencil drawings on white paper mounted to card. Folio (170 x 120 cms). Brown cloth board backed in Vellum, also corners, with the foretitle drawing reproduced and laid down to front board, gilt title to spine. Titlepage printed in red and black. Designed by George Rainbird and Ruari McLean; frontispiece lithograph executed by John in July 1955 at Fryern Court, Fordingbirdge, Hampshire, and printed direct from the plate at The Curwen Press, London, who also printed the text, which is printed on Abbey Mills Suede Text Antique Laid. Housed in the unevenly faded slipcase with red label to front. Both book and case in excellent condition. A fine copy.
