The text is based on collation of the early editions by H.W. Chapman, with notes, indexes and illustrations from contemporary sources. Complete in five volumes Large-paper edition, limited to 1000 sets. Coloured frontispiece in each vol. Publisher's original paper-covered boards with grey linen spines, printed white paper labels to each, that of 'Pride and Prejudice' darkened and rubbed, with spares tipped in at the back of each vol. Edges of boards rubbed in places; points of corners rounded on well bumped. Edges of the text block untrimmed. Without old inscriptions or other interior markings, indeed the text pages and endpapers are extremely fresh and clean, completely free of foxing - an unusual attribution in this set. All five dust-jacket supplied but well browned and mostly detached, now housed in a separate packet. A VG+ set of the five Jane Austen novel originally published between 1811 and 1817. Comprises Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northangar Abbey and Persuasion.
