Publisher's pale orange cloth, slightly soiled, with gilt lettered brown spine panel, with the excellent and unclipped dust-jacket illustrated by British artist John Minton. Frontispiece, titlepage and further text illustrations also by Minton. Jacket chipped at head of the spine with some loss, corner tips rubbed. Small area of staining at foot of first 100 or so pages. Without old inscriptions or other internal markings. A VG+ copy of the author's first book which introduced Mediterranean recipes to the kitchens of British cooks following the deprivations of post-war rationing. The recipes were concocted whist she lived in France, Italy an the Greek Islands, using only local ingredients. First published in 1950, now considered a classic of cooking.
