Brick red cloth with the excellent pictorial dust-jacket, price-clipped. Without inscriptions, etc. Jacket very slightly browned. A near fine copy. Uncommonly found in this lovely condition. The work first deals with nature as a guide to camouflage, and then with the application of lessons learned from nature, including the importance of background, texture, colour, shadows, and more. Illustrated with line drawings, diagrams, and photographs, Penrose gives valuable instruction on sitting and camouflage discipline, dummies and decoys, fixed positions, materials and equipment, and individual camouflage. Roland Penrose was an English artist, historian, and poet. He was a major promoter and collector of modern art and an associate of the key surrealists in Europe. He was a lecturer at the War Office School for Instructors to the Home Guard and at the Osterley Park School for Training of the Home Guard practical manual of camouflage intended to train Home Guardsman in the art of camouflage and concealment.
