Considered Pavese's best novel, 'The Moon and the Bonfire' is set during the aftermath of World War Two in the small Piedmont town of Santo Stefano Belbo. A local man who made his fortune in the United States returns after a long absence to find the town he knew so well has been deeply changed by the war.
