PRESENTATION COPY FROM YVON NICOLAS TO THE AUTHOR, JOHN HEYGATE, WITH THE INK INSCRIPTION DATED 1930. Limited Edition of 450 copies. Binding thread intact. Original buff card covers, Yapp edges, with title label laid down on the front cover. Edges a touch tatty, covers soiled. Light and scattered foxing to the front end-papers. A VG copy. Following his death (in 1836), Colman was falsely said to have been the author of a pornographic poem entitled The Rodiad, which extolled the pleasures and virtues to be had by caning schoolboys, and on flagellation in general. It was published by John Camden Hotten in 1871, falsely dated to 1810 and ascribed to Colman. However, the true author seems to have been Richard Monckton Milnes, 1st Baron Houghton.
