First UK Edition, first printing. Original black cloth, silver lettering to the spine, with the fine unclipped dust-jacket design by Michael Brett. Without inscriptions, just some mild spots of foxing to the top edge of the text block. The novel, which spans a period three million years, was developed at the same time as Stanley Kubrick's film version but published after the release of the film. Clarke and Kubrick worked on the book together, but Clarke ended up with the credit as sole author. A Fine copy of a classic of sci-fi literature, based on the screenplay by Clarke and Stanley Kubrick.
