Reprint for the Book Society, issued same year as the Murray first printing. With the price-clipped dust-jacket designed by John Craxton, who also illustrated the frontispiece and titlepage. Jacket slightly rubbed at head of the spine and corner tips with light foxing to lower panel. Mild toning to titlepage and prelims. Original crimson cloth with gilt lettering to the spine and gilt emblem to front. pp [xviii], 320; 24 photographic plates (by Joan Eyres Monsell) and one map. Book Society bookplate laid down on first free endpapes. Nicely signed in blue ink by Fermor below his name on the titlepage. A VG+ copy of Fermor's spellbinding part-travelogue, part inspired evocation of a part of Greece's past. Mani, once one of Europe's wildest and most isolated regions, was cut off from the rest of Greece by the towering Taygettus mountain range and hemmed in by the Aegean and Ionian seas, forming a rocky central prong of the Peleponnese at the southernmost point in Europe.
