Good Housekeeping Magazine 1926

First Edition. Publisher's pale blue cloth, spine sunned with small chip at the top, with the unclipped dust-jacket which has been backed onto white paper to prevent further splitting. Spine of jacket very darkened with two significant chunks missing, also chips to the front panel which do not, however, detract over much from the delightful art work depicting a very glamorous, nineteen twenties mum administering a tray of tea and fruit to her daughter who is tucked up in bed accompanied by her Chinese rag doll. Old name stamp to the front paste down page, partially erased. A VG copy in the about good jacket. An uncommon title, rarely seen with the jacket, aimed at those "confronted with the necessity of providing food for the sick and convalescent". Contents divided into chapters covering the following genre of dish: meat-teas, broths and soups; fish; meat, game, and poultry; vegetables; hot puddings and fruit dishes; jellies and cold sweets; drinks - tea, coffee, etc; sauces, savoury and sweet; savoury dishes for the convalescent; cakes, biscuits and sandwiches; egg dishes and miscellaneous. Among the delights on offer, one finds sheeps' tongue stewed (urgh!), brussels sprouts with cream, and tripe soup.
