Second edition, enlarged, of a work first published in 1902. 8vo. (23 x 15 cms); pp. xvi + 368; large colour folding map of 'Tibet and the surrounding regions' plus 36 plates, mainly photographic, including portrait frontispiece of the author (behing tissue-guard); also four coloured plans of the town of Shigatse, the monastery of Tashilhunpo, the Cho-Khang temple of the Buddha at Llhasa, and Potala, also Lhasa. Original brick red cloth boards, slightly soiled, gilt title lettering to spine. Bookplate on front pastedown and small private ownership embossed blind stamp on the front endpaper. A couple of short tears to map and one of the plans, spots of foxing in places. The enlarged second edition of the original work which only carried six plates.
