First single volume edition of the Forster translation, originally issued 1802 in five volumes by W. Bulmer and Co. taken from Antoine Galland's "Les Mille et Une Nuits, Contes Arabes." 8vo (9.5 x 6.5 ins); pp. xxxviii, 492. Illustrated by 24 engraved plates from pictures by Smirke, extremely clean and fresh. Bound in full greenish-black morocco with intricate and ornate gilt decorations to sides and spine in the Moorish tradition. Light rubbing to head of the spine, corner tips rounded (one bumped), All edges gilt, book dealer's ticket of Fletcher Forbes of Southampton. From the library of Jan Pienkowski, with his bookplate laid down to front endpaper.
