Original dark red cloth, gilt title lettering to spine. 2 lithographed plates of fish, 16 photographic plates, and numerous vignettes in the text. Scattered blotches of foxing throughout, never very heavy. Old ink owner's name to half-title, plus inked note in manuscript to top margin of first pages of text. Ex.libris Albert Ruskin Cook, with his Makindye, Kampala, bookplate to front pastedown. Cook (1870-1951) was a British medical missionary in Uganda, who established the Mengo Hospital in Uganda, the oldest hospital in East Africa. He was President of The Uganda Society in 1933-1934.
