First Dulac trade edition. Quarto. Original cream-coloured cloth, spine and front cover elaborately decorated in gilt design with gilt titles and publisher's mark to the spine. Patterned endpapers. Colour frontispiece and 19 colour plates mounted on cream paper, behind captioned tissue-guards, by Edmund Dulac. Patches of light foxing to the half-title page. A Fine copy. First translated by Fitzgerald in 1859 from the Persian into English, the Rubaiyat consists of a selection of quatrains (rubāʿiyāt) attributed to Omar Khayyam (1048–1131), "the Astronomer-Poet of Persia".
