With the excellent and unclipped dust-jacket,designed by Osbert Lancaster, rubbed at ends of the backstrip and a couple of the corner tips. Without old inscriptions. An about fine copy of this classic work of fifties gay fiction. This comedy of manners is set among British expatriates and 'exotic' locals in a Greece still deplete of tourism. Written with an infectious enjoyment and good humour, the story of the flamboyant and temperamental Colonel Theodore Grecos and his devotion to the completely unsophisticated Goetz Joachim provides Francis King with ample scope for his mastery of ironic observation. \"The Firewalkers came to be written, born out of the exhilarating sense of liberation that came to me on first setting foot in Athens\" wrote King. The book was published pseudonymously under the name Frank Cauldwell. After completing his degree in 1949, King worked for the British Council. His positions with them took him to Italy, Salonika, and finally Kyoto. While he was in Greece he met the uninhibited writer Anne Cumming, who was also working for the British Council. She enjoyed observing his homosexual adventures. In 1964 he resigned to write full-time, by then he had already published nine novels, as well as poetry and a memoir.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"CAULDWELL, Frank [pseud. i.e. Francis KING]","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":52898691711319,"sku":"21298","price":60.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0888\/6753\/7239\/files\/21298.jpg?v=1772361876","url":"https:\/\/worldsendbookshop.com\/products\/frank-cauldwell-pseud-i-e-francis-king-the-firewalkers-john-murray-1956","provider":"Worlds End Bookshop","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
