Printed pictorial wrappers in various colours, lettered in black, significant stain to back wrapper on vol 1. and a crease across the corner of front wrapper on vol 5. Signature of Kesey in facsimile to titlepage in first vol. An excellent set. 'Spit' featured a different editor and a different theme in each issue, including fellow Panksters Ken Babbs and Elaine Loren. In addition there is a mail order poster illustrated by Kesey entitled 'A DEAL' via which you can order the first issue of 'Spit', entitled 'Old in the Streets' by cutting the coupon and sending away. Plus an undated catalogue for Kesey's publications for sale, entitled 'Key-Z Productions' and giving an address at 755 Polk Street, Eugene, OR 97402. In it we him offering a set of Spit at $60 - \"The Spit in the Ocean books are rare. We have the remainder of the stock. Since the books are out of print, when we sell out they are gone\", runs the text accompanying the listing. A supplementary volume was published in 2001 following Kesey's death. Edited by Ed McClanahan and Jeff Forester, it was essential a tribute to him. The Spit series was first conceived by Kesey as a way to serialise an unpublished novel recounting the adventures or \"prayers\" of one Grandma Whittier.
