16mo (11 x 7 cms); pp 664 + 72. Portrait frontispiece and engraved plates. Bound in full dark green calf with elaborate gilt decorations to spine and decorative gilt framing to sides. All edges marbled. Corner tips lightly rubbed. A near fine copy with the elegantly printed bookplate of Robert Caro. Pierre-Jean de Béranger (1780-1857) was a prolific French poet and 'chansonnier' who enjoyed great popularity and influence in France during his lifetime. He apparently witnessed the storming of the Bastille in 1789, which was commemorated in his poem "Le Quatorze Juillet".
