Rebound in contemporary half calf over marbled boards, gilt tooled spine with raised bands and contrasting title labels and date at the bottom. Top edge gilt. One plate well foxed, others with tissue-guards in most cases. Original upper wrapper bound in at the front. An attractive copy. From the Preface, "We have often regretted, that while so much genius has of late years been employed in classifications of the animal and vegetable kingdom, the classification of young ladies has been totally and unaccountably neglected". Thus the author has attempted to classify "young ladies" into social groupings, like 'romantic young lady', 'literary young lady', 'stupid young lady', 'petting young lady' and so forth.
