London: William Cobbett, 1828.
First Edition. 8vo. Three plates. Rebound in red half-calf over marbled boards, edges of spine and corners rubbed, raised bands and label with gilt lettering. Marbled endpapers; with the bookplate of Joseph Neeld to front pastedown. Spots of foxing to prelims, generally clean and bright copy. The first two leaves of this useful work are printed on paper made from corn husks to demonstrate the usefulness of the plant. "In this most enrtainingly written treatise Cobbett skilfully blended agricultural and political advice with fascinating reminiscences. Contemptuous of his critics and enemies, he waxed lyrical at the prospect of English farm-labourers seeing 'this beautiful crop growing in all their gardens…instead of the infamous Potato'" (Pearl, William Cobbett (1953), no. 154)
